Great start!

The meal I had last Thursday night at Firefly Grill and Wine Bar was wonderful. The price range for the entres is similar to another nearby fine restaurant, so I anticipated the same relentless richness in each mouthful. The welcome surprise was the basic clean flavors of the veggies and grains (a subtly pearly couscous in my case) that accompanied the outstanding lamb. It was described as lamb with mint sauce, which I love in almost any incarnation, but the mint that mingled with the couscous was spare and let the flavors of the perfectly cooked and sauced lamb stand out.
I chose a red zin, not caring if that was the perfect pairing, and though the waitress clearly was ready to pair the perfect wine to my meal, she was very cheerful about the quality of the zin and how much I would like it. Thank you sweet waitress, for letting me order my red zin! Left to my own devices...that is exactly what I will do at every meal, (I am going through a phase...) Anyway, our waitress was playful and attentive, obviously knowledgable about the food (very polite when my dinner partner found her duck sauce too salty...which it was, but was replaced without any fuss), and very knowledgable about the wine list.
Our reactions to our appetizers were mixed as we found the shrimp appetizer to be a bit bland, but loved the Sirloin Bites! The dessert was lovely and even the coffee was good. I will be back, I know...now if we could only get them to stay open past 10 on the weekends...maybe get a little jazz combo that starts late...
